Miami Nights, the new action thriller co-starring Oscar nominee Terrence Howard and Emmy winner Jeremy Piven, alongside Jeremy Sumpter (Peter Pan) and Sydelle Noel (GLOW), is set to be released in the U.S. market.
Nat McCormick’s Stoic has acquired world rights to the film, which will have its world premiere at AFM in Los Angeles next month.
Directed by Justin Steele (Death and Cremation, Gutshot Straight) and written by Amanda Conis and Stephen Lloyd Bennett, Miami Nights follows two decorated war heroes who are dishonorably discharged for saving a prominent American journalist overseas. As they try to rebuild their lives, they become embroiled in a dangerous conspiracy with local criminals that culminates in a high-stakes plot to steal a precious diamond.
In addition to the main ensemble cast, Sofia Pernas (“Blood & Treasure”), John Lewis (“Den of Thieves”), Danay Garcia (“Fear the Walking Dead”), Manu Bennett (“Spartacus”) and Thomas Jane (“The Punisher”) also appear.
Shot on location in Miami, the film was produced by Darryl C. Scott (Bosco), Natalie Klein (The Fall) and John Lewis (Lullaby) and is the flagship of Drama Free Films, the Los Angeles-based production company founded by Steele, Mika Molinari and Klein.
Serj Tankian, frontman of the Grammy Award-winning heavy metal band System of a Down, provided original music for the film, as well as the musical groups featured in the film’s story.
“This project is exactly the type of bold commercial filmmaking we are passionate about,” said Natalie Klein, partner at Drama Free Films. “‘Miami Nights’ has the cast, music and scale that resonates around the world. This is an exciting moment for Drama Free to expand its horizons and we believe this film will be a great calling card going forward.”
Scott added: “Miami Nights is about brotherhood, redemption, and second chances, and it’s a story that connects across borders. It’s based on character and emotion, but also provides the scale and adrenaline that audiences crave. We’re proud of what this team has built, and we can’t wait to share it with the world.”
In addition to “Miami Nights,” Stoick’s credits also include “Carousel,” a romantic film directed by Rachel Lambert starring Chris Pine and Jenny Slate, and “Midnight Pool,” directed by James McTeague and starring Aaron Paul.
