It will cost more to watch HBO Max since the company last increased the price of its ad-free plan a year ago.
Warner Bros. Discovery has announced that as of Tuesday, October 21, prices for HBO Max plans will increase to the following prices:
HBO Max Basic (with ads)
Monthly: +$1/month increase, now $10.99
Annual: +$10/year increase, now $109.99
HBO Max Standard
Monthly: +$1.50/month increase, now $18.49
Annual: +$15/year increase, now $184.99
HBO Max Premium
Monthly: +$2/month increase to $22.99
Annual: +$20/year increase, now $229.99
Pricing takes effect immediately for new subscriptions. Existing monthly subscribers will receive a 30-day notice prior to plan renewal and the price increase will occur on their next billing date after November 20, 2025. Current annual subscribers will not see a price increase until their account renews and will be notified 30 days prior to plan renewal.
WBD recently increased the price of its ad-free HBO Max streaming plan starting June 2024. In July, the company renamed the service back to HBO Max, two years after rebranding it as simply “Max.”
HBO Max’s latest price increase comes as many other distributors are also raising prices as the company looks to make its direct-to-consumer service more profitable. The price increases for Disney+ and Hulu will also take effect on October 21st, following price hikes for Peacock, Apple TV (without the “+” sign), and Netflix earlier this year.
HBO Max’s content lineup includes series and movies from HBO, Warner Bros. Pictures, DC Studios, Turner Classic Pictures, A24, Studio Ghibli, and more.
The service includes all current and classic HBO original series, including The Sopranos, Game of Thrones, Succession, The Pit, The Penguin, The White Lotus, The Last of Us, Peacemaker, Hux, and Tusk. HBO Max includes TV shows like “Friends,” “Abbott Elementary,” “Rick and Morty” and “The Big Bang Theory.” On the movie side, the service has titles like “Superman,” “Minecraft Movies,” and “Sinners.”
In announcing the price increase, WBD also touted upcoming series on HBO Max including “IT: Welcome to Derry,” “The Chair Company” and “I Love LA” (each of which will premiere later this year), as well as “Game of Thrones” prequel series “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” and new seasons of “The Pitt” and “Industry” in January 2026.
