FilmSharks secures rights to thriller ‘Insurrección’

Guido Rudo’s Buenos Aires-based FilmSharks has teamed up with renowned Colombian actor and producer Marlon Moreno (El Capo, Dog Eat Dog) to secure all rights, including derivative IP, to Insurrección, a provocative and political action thriller film project.

“Insurrección,” written by Colombian screenwriter Mauricio Marulanda González, is in development with plans for a bilingual version in Spanish and English.

Conceived as a cross between ‘Public Enemy’ and ‘The Bourne Identity’ (‘Nuevo Orden’), the project aims to blend provocative genre storytelling with a sharp socio-political pulse.

For the Spanish version, Marlon Moreno, director of the Disney+ TV series “El Capo,” Sundance hit “Dog Eat Dog,” Netflix top-ranked series “La Benganza de Anaria” and box office hit “Corazon de Leon,” joins as executive producer and creative collaborator, bringing both star power and creative vision.

Set against a backdrop of corruption and civil unrest, Rebellion follows Nicolas Diaz, a law professor who is disillusioned with the system and leads a masked rebel group that live-streams the trials and executions of high-ranking politicians.

As their message shocks the nation, the National Guard attempts to uncover the true identity of the mysterious leader, only to discover that he has lied to the identity of a man who died 22 years ago.

This project fits into FilmSharks’ strategy of developing bold, socially reflective IP with crossover potential.

“We have to bet on impactful stories without fear of being politically correct or not,” Rudd told Variety.

“‘Insurrección’ reflects the anxieties of the Ibero-American community and is a cry against inequality and manipulation. This is an IP built for intense controversy, deep debate, and massive audience participation.”

Moreno described the project as artistically ambitious and emotionally resonant, a reflection of today’s world.

“This is more than just a story. This is a pulse, a collective and intimate call to power, memory and dignity,” he said. “The personal and the epic are fused to question the times we live in.”

With this announcement, FilmSharks strengthens its position as one of Ibero-America’s leading independent film companies. With more than 35 production credits and partnerships with Sony, Warner Bros., Universal, Disney, Videocine and Patagonic, FilmSharks continues to expand from sales and remakes to high-concept original development.

A stalwart in the world of Latin American and Hollywood film crossovers, Rudd is also involved in upcoming and recent titles such as the genre film “Felix” directed by Demian Runya and the sci-fi film “Pacifico” co-starring “Undertow” director Manolo Cardona. Pancho Rodriguez’s Disney-backed thriller Abracadavel and Hugo Cardoso’s Don’t Enter were sold in more than 45 territories for theatrical release.
