Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau are enjoying a blossoming romance.
A Canadian source close to politics tells PEOPLE that the singer and the former Canadian prime minister are “very fond of each other” so far, adding, “In addition to their charm, they are both smart and love to talk about serious issues.”
Sources say they are taking things slowly because Mr. Perry, 40, is on his Lifetime world tour until December and Mr. Trudeau, 53, is based in Canada.
“They’ve been in touch since the middle of the summer, but haven’t been able to spend as much time together, mainly because of her schedule,” the source explains.
“Justin’s busy too, and they both have family obligations. They have common interests. They’ve both been dating on their own, but they were definitely into each other and still are.”

The two like and respect each other and have a romantic relationship.
“Justin thinks he’s great,” the source said. “We had time to develop as friends, on an intellectual level, and an outsized attraction. Romance is worth it.”
Neither Mr. Perry nor Mr. Trudeau have yet commented on the status of their relationship. Representatives for Mr. Perry and Mr. Trudeau did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s requests for comment.
Perry and Trudeau first sparked romance rumors when they went for a walk, drinks and then dinner in Montreal in July, a month after they split after nine years of an on-and-off relationship. (Meanwhile, Prime Minister Trudeau divorced his wife Sophie Grégoire in 2023 after 18 years of marriage.)
Two days later, Trudeau attended Perry’s Montreal concert, according to photos shared on social media.
Most recently, they were photographed kissing on a yacht off the coast of Santa Barbara in late September.
A source for Perry told PEOPLE earlier this week, “When she first hung out with Justin, she had no intention of dating, but they kept in touch. He even flew to California to meet her during a break from his tour. They connect easily. She finds him attractive. He’s very respectful.”

Perry also winked at romance rumors on Monday night during her London Lifetimes tour when a fan held up a placard that read, “I hear you’re single.” “Did you hear I was single? That’s interesting,” she replied sheepishly.
