Britney Spears is hitting back at ex-husband Kevin Federline’s shocking new memoir, in which he expresses urgent concerns for the pop star and fears for their two sons.
A representative for Spears, 43, made the remarks in a statement shared exclusively with PEOPLE ahead of the publication of his new memoir, You Thought You Knew.
“The publicity surrounding Kevin’s book means that Kevin and others are once again profiting from her, but sadly after her child support agreement with Kevin ends,” the statement reads. “All she cares about is her children, Sean Preston and Jayden James, and their well-being in this sensational endeavor. She detailed her journey so far in her memoir (‘The Woman in Me’).”
Spears and Federline, 47, married in 2004 and welcomed sons Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, before their divorce was finalized in 2007.
Federline writes in her new book that the boys were once accused of suspicions about their pop star mother and didn’t want to spend time at her house as teenagers.

“Sometimes I would wake up in the middle of the night and find her standing quietly in the doorway, watching them sleep. ‘Oh, are you awake?'” Federline wrote in her book, according to the New York Times. “Then she would turn around and run off without any explanation.”
Elsewhere in his book, Federline writes that he is concerned about Spears’ current “situation” and believes it is “hurt toward something irreversible.”
“It became impossible to pretend that everything was okay. From where I sat, the clock was ticking, approaching the 11th hour,” he wrote in his memoirs, according to the Times. “If things don’t change, something bad will happen. And my biggest fear is that our sons will continue to have problems.”
Federline did not share specific concerns about Spears, but said he believes the “Free Britney” movement that helped free her from her 13-year conservatorship is more harmful than fans believe.
“Right now, more than ever, (children) need your support. I have been their buffer for years, but now they are bigger than me,” he wrote. “It’s time to sound the alarm.”
Ms. Federline’s memoir is scheduled to be published on October 21st. Meanwhile, Spears will publish her memoir, “The Woman in Me,” in 2023.
Ms. Spears said in her book that Ms. Federline “took my world away from me” in the custody battle, saying, “He took the breath out of me. And my family never held me.”
