Selena Gomez is newly married and looking forward to becoming a parent someday. The singer and actress posted about the Season 2 finale of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, which included a major plot twist. Her character, Alex Russo, is the mother of teenage wizard Billy, played by Janice Leanne Brown.
“Alex Russo is a mom,” Gomez wrote alongside a still from the show. “I hope that someday it will be me.”
Gomez has been open about her dreams of becoming a mother for years. In September 2024, she told Vanity Fair that she planned to have children by age 35, with or without a partner.
“I was single for five years, except for a few dates, before I met my boyfriend,” she said. “And I thought, ‘Okay, if this is the vibe, what’s most important to me? Family.'”
She added, “I’ve never said this before, but unfortunately I can’t have a child of my own. I have a lot of medical issues that put my life and my baby’s life at risk. It’s something I’ve had to grieve for a while.”
Gomez said her path to parenthood “didn’t necessarily turn out the way I envisioned it. I thought it would happen to everyone.[But]I’m in a much better place in that regard. I feel lucky to have amazing people who are willing to do surrogacy and adoption, which is a huge possibility for me. I’m really grateful for other outlets for people who are desperate to become mothers, and I’m one of them. The star began dating her current husband, Benny Blanco, in the summer of 2023, and they announced their engagement in December 2024 before marrying in September of this year.
