Kristen Wiig is open about some of the best advice she received on Saturday night’s live.
On Tuesday, September 30th, Wiig, 52, appeared on the former Costar Amy Poehler podcast, chatting about Good Hang and her experiences in the long-standing variety sketch series. Wiig has opened up about the process of writing sketches, not just performing at shows.
After Poehler, 54, he asked how he gained confidence in pitching sketch ideas in the show’s writer’s room. Wiig explained that her former co-star Will Forte gave her advice that helped her find confidence in her ideas.
“I think I wanted to know, up to my perspective, where I was in the world,” Wiig said. “The more I think I found it interesting, the more I can hone the kind of work and what doesn’t work.”
“I remember what Forte said once in his office (after that) he said, “I don’t know if Lorne wants this or not,” and he said, ‘Don’t do that,” Wiig recalled. “He said, ‘If anyone else thinks this is funny, never write it… If you think it’s funny, write it.’ And I’d always carried it with me. ”
Wiig later proceeds to Cowlite through a successful comedy film of Bridesmaid and Barb and Star.

When it comes to landing the SNL role, Wiig couldn’t immediately recall how she received Poehler’s offer, but in the end she remembered that at first she “heard nothing.”
“The season started and that was when I was thinking, ‘I didn’t get it,'” Wiig said. “But they called me and they had a place for you. Can I come in two weeks?”
Pauler told her former co-star that she was “ready and confident to try out your stupid idea – what’s your job?”
The Parks and the Recreation star also informed guests that everything Wiig used in the August 2005 audition had become a recurring character in the series, including the infamous Target Lady.

While Target Lady was a fan favorite, Poehler revealed which of Wiig’s characters is one of her personal favorites. Sue is a woman who gets a little excited at a surprise party.
“I love her. I love her for a million reasons,” Pauler shared. “The way you play her is so funny. I love her wigs and I’m always in the turtleneck.”
Wiig agreed that Sue was his favorite. “I like being in sketches with a lot of people and there are moments when everyone is looking around like, ‘What’s going on?’,” she said.
“I love the moment. I love the cut to Kenan (Thompson),” Wiig continued. “That’s my favorite thing… If you see most of my sketches, I’ll go back and say, “You have to cut to people who are being made strange to me, remind the audience that I’m weird.”

Currently, Wiig is in the villain era. She is Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Film, Vera from The Theaters Now, and a cat-loving enemy. Based on the Netflix Children’s Series, Wiig told people in September that choosing her first role in a children’s show is part of being “easy yes.”
“They’re why I did that. Of course I loved working with (director) Ryan Crego. I think he’s very talented, but I felt it was really good to make creative decisions to someone other than me,” Wiig told people. “And they knew they could see it, despite being still at that age trying to understand what I was doing.”
