British producer Pat Toookie Dixon has been on A Smallable Woman with credits, including the Netflix series 1899 and the BBC Studios hit comedy Ghosts.
The project is co-produced by Tookey-Dickson’s right-hand production at A surprising women’s production based in the UK and Canada, marking the Transatlantic Alliance on stories with strong feminists and international resonance.
Called by Stava “The Fleabag in Corset” or “Emily of Paris” Arapurusto,” the eight-part series combines the charm of Belle Epoque Paris with the chaotic energy of Z-storytelling.
Inspired by the diary of Ukrainian artist and feminist Marie Bashkartsev – considered the world’s first female influencer, the show revisited her last year in the 1880s when she tried to deny death rates by curating her own image and fame.
In the series, Marie, an ambitious young woman with mild aristocracy, learns that lung disease is terminal. Convinced that she is destined to stardom, she embarks on a reckless mission to gain fame before time runs out.
Her wit, charm and determination draws her attention, while her disruptive health, social bias, and family tension conspire against her.
The series explores the tension between self-expression and mortality, casting Bashkartsev as the modern heroine of a proto, whose voice resonates more than a century later.
“Amazing Woman” is the story of the first influencer. Today there is a tragic, modern voice that breaks through history to tell us,” Starva told Variety. “It’s Bell Epoch in all glory, but pure gen Z in tonnaly: chaos, raw, and too realistic.”
Under development, the series has already gained industry recognition, taking part in the launch of the MidPoint series 2022, earning the best co-production pitch at Seriencamp 2025.
A blend of historical biopics, social satire and feminist edges coincides with the growth trends of hybrid dramas that hold the boundaries of style while pinning them to actual events.
The producer of “A Surprising Women” who was chosen to play at the Iberseries & Platino Industry 2025 co-production and fundraising forum is currently holding a private meeting with potential co-producers.
