Billy Cradup says that acting is not for faint hearted people, but is full of rejection and can sometimes include hatred.
“As soon, there are only 20 people out there. Someone wins the majority,” he told Page 6 at the premiere of “Jakery” at the New York Film Festival Monday night.
The actor, 57, continued to list all the ways that rejection can raise a ugly head.
“We haven’t gotten an agent,” he explained. “I’m not going to audition, audition, do not play a role, get a part, get a part, get a part, get a movie, get a part, get it or appear in a movie, don’t watch the movie.”
Crudup then added that the actors can appear in the film and people can see it, but they “hate you.”
“You’re nominated for an Academy Award and you can lose it. There’s no end to that,” he concluded.
In his new film, “Jay Kelly,” Tony’s winner plays a longtime friend of the famous film star (George Clooney), who hasn’t achieved the same success as his peers.
Thankfully, Crudup said he has never experienced this scenario.
“I was very lucky with the friends I have,” the “almost famous” star shared.
However, the “Morning Show” star noted that it’s easy to see that “someone who succeeds early in their careers can lighten the load of friendship and cut food from some people that are important to them.”
Crudup warned that career choices are only for those who “really want to do it.”
Other celebrities from the Starley Premiere, which took place in the Lincoln Center films, include George Clooney, Laura Dern, Josh Hamilton, Riley Keef and Patrick Wilson.
“Jay Kelly” will receive a limited release on November 14th, before moving to Netflix on December 5th.
