In a new interview, Matthew McConaughey revealed that he and his mother, Mary Kathleen “Kay” McConaughey, had once been apart for nearly a decade over the issues surrounding his fame.
“We had an eight-year period where we had to have a short conversation with her on Sunday phone.
“I told her something between my son and mom on Sunday, and I read about it on the news on Tuesday, and saw it on a local paper. She couldn’t help herself.”
Kay, 93, said of the period that he was “on hiatus.”
However, Matthew shared that after an eight-year break, he and his mother were “closing” once again, as his understanding of the entertainment industry changed.
“I was stable enough in my position and fame. ‘What do you know? My mother can say anything she wants,” he shared. “It’s more fun now.”
The Motherson duo is currently starring in a new Apple TV+ series called “The Lost Bus” along with Matthew’s own 17-year-old son, Levy.
More revelation has surfaced about the dynamics of their family during their shows press tours.
While talking to the Guardian recently, Matthew revealed about Kay’s surprising reaction to her husband James Donald McConaughey that she was almost dying of a heart attack shortly after they had sex.
The “How to Lose a Man in 10 Days” star told the outlet that his mother was in the driveway as paramedics escorted her father to an ambulance above the gurney and “she pulled the seat from him.”
He said Kay.
“The Lost Bus” is a series about school bus drivers (Matthew) and is a teacher fighting to save 22 children on Apple TV+ on October 3rd.
