Michael Douglas got a strong response from fans after calling his wife, Catherine Zeta Jones “birthday sister.”
The couple, both born on September 25th but 25 years apart, took them to social media on Thursday to wish each other happy birthdays. However, the tribute to Douglas’ spurt caused a mixed reaction.
“What a joy to celebrate my birthday sister with you!” he captioned their golf selfies.
“Congratulations on your epic match at the Celebrity Rider Cup,” the actor, now 81, continued. “Happy birthday to my love in life @catherinezetajones
“It’s not his wife, it’s his wife. What does he mean by a birthday sister?” one wrote in the comments section.
Another fan asked, “Did you call my wife’s sister? Or am I stumbling?”
Many fans seemed confused.

Regarding her homage to Zeta Jones’ husband, the now 56-year-old actress wrote, “Happy birthday Michael! It’s once in a lifetime to share this special day with you!”
The couple’s 22-year-old daughter, Carries, also shared a sweet message with her parents.
“September 25 🤍 Dada with Mom’s Mom!!,” she wrote, sharing a photo of her mother holding her hand with the star of “basic instinct.” “Your love, your love for life, your love for learning, your art… there are no words to describe my gratitude and admiration.”
Douglas and Zeta Jones have been married since November 2000, and apart from Carrie, they share their 25-year-old son, Dylan.
Douglas also has a 46-year-old son, Cameron. He shares with his ex-wife, Diandra Luker.
Last month, Zeta Jones shared her birthday with Douglas and talked about the similarities in an interview with The Sunday Times.
“We respect space and respect an independent spirit,” she shared. “We are very similar. We were born on the same day 25 years apart.”
“We are not afraid to be verbally or to express ourselves,” she continued. “I wear everything on my sleeves, and so does he.”
