American Got Talent has a new champion!
The 20th Milestone season approached its end on Wednesday, September 24th, with singer Jessica Sanchez as the winner. Sanchez beat runner-up, freestyle rapper Christanner, leaving the AGT champion title and the $1 million grand prize.
She quickly shed tears when host Terry Crew announced her name. “Sorry, it’s really emotional. This is amazing. Thank you!”
This moment was equally exciting for Judge Sofia Vergara, who gave Sanchez a golden buzzer at the beginning of the audition round season.
Sanchez made a notable journey with AGT and returned to the series for nearly 20 years after competing for the first time as a 10-year-old in season 1. She was impressed by the judges with her vocal chops.
After giving Sanchez a golden buzzer, Vergara told the camera: “I feel like it’s all clicking… ‘I was pregnant and I was here 20 years ago’ And we’ve now in our 20th season and she sang her way.
For her finale performance, Sanchez surprised the crowd with a rendition of “Die with a Smile” by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars.
“This has been around for 20 years, and this means everything,” Sanchez said before learning he won the competition on Wednesday night.

Ten finalists remained in the evening.
Terry then narrowed the act down to the top five, with the choirs of Turner, Sanchez, Lightwire, Jordan Blue and Leo High School moved.
From there, Terry revealed that the act of finishing fifth was Lightwire. Leo High School’s choir was in fourth, followed by Jordan Blue in third.
With Sanchez and Turner still remaining as the last two acts, the audience were on the edge of their seats to find out who would win the AGT champion title. Finally, Terry revealed that Sanchez is the winner of Season 20.
Aside from the new winners named, the evening was packed with lots of entertainment and guest appearances. The evening began with multi-platinum musician Manuel Turizo performing alongside Mica Palace and Grammy-nominated artist Aloe Black singing with the choir at Leo High School.
Jourdan Blue took to the stage to perform the single “Breakeven” along with scriptwriter Danny O’Donoghue. Things got better for him as the lead singer revealed that the band wanted to tour.
Grammy-nominated singer Leona Lewis performed with Lightwire, Grammy-winning singer Ciara recycled the team, and season 19 winner Richard Goodall is back to sing her new original single, “Long Time Coming,” next to Journey Rocker Neil Shen.
Performances from Magician/AGT alumni Piff The Magic Dragon, Shin Lim, Mat Franco and Trap Choir/AGT Alumni Sainted also teamed up with season 20 finalist Mama Duke.
