Robert De Niro pretended to be Donald Trump’s new FCC chairman and made a surprising cameo during the highly anticipated return of Jimmy Kimmel to his late-night show on Tuesday night.
After Kimmel gave an emotional return monologue, he told viewers that FCC chairman Brendan Kerr, who threatened Disney and ABC last Wednesday, led to Kimmel’s suspension but would instead take part in the live show from Washington, D.C.
“So you say to whoopi over there, she shows a bit of respect. Or, the only way she gets is from under George Washington. He was referring to Whoopi Goldberg, host of “The View.” His ABC talk show remained silent last week about Kimmel’s suspension and ultimately tackled the controversy on Monday. After yelling Kimmel from the air, Kerr threatened the “scenery” last week.
When Kimmel asked if he was threatening Goldberg, De Niro replied, “I’m sure he’ll never threaten Goldstein. He’s just taught me a lesson about the outcome.”
Kimmel follows, “Tell me and forgive me. You’re probably the wrong person to speak, but the FCC seems to be using mob tactics to curb self-discussion.” He also reminded the chairman, who assumes that the FCC will fine the show for sworn in the air.
De Niro then said, “What did fuck say to me? I’m a fucking FCC. I can say anything I want.
“Speak, it’s not free anymore. We’re now prosecuting this word,” he added. When asked how much Kimmel is charging, De Niro explained: “It depends on what you want to say. If you want to say something good about the president’s beautiful, thick, yellow hair, then how can he put on his makeup, it’s free.
