Ego Nwodim detailed her decision to leave “Saturday Night Live” after seven seasons, saying the sketch show “is always meant to be a stepping stone.”
During a panel at the Fast Company Innovation Festival held on Wednesday (via people), Nwodim said he has big plans for his career since “SNL.”
“There’s so much to do and ‘SNL’ is always meant to be a stepping stone,” Nwodim said. “I have a lot of ideas that I need time to create, and I look forward to doing it.
The comedian added that she is “very excited” and “it’s exciting” for the next chapter.
Nwodim announced her departure last week after the “SNL” cast of Season 51 was considered solid following a massive shakeup in which he saw the exits of Heidi Gardner, Devon Walker, Michael Longfellow and Emile Wakim. Sketch Group Preek Don’t Destrow has Ben Marshall promoted to main cast, Martin Herlihy moved to writing staff and John Higgins left the show. Variety reported that after the final announcement was made, the situation for Nwodim has changed and that he has chosen to pursue other opportunities.
“The most difficult part of a great party is knowing when to say good night,” Nwodim wrote on Instagram when he announced the news. “However, after seven unforgettable seasons, I have decided to leave SNL. I am extremely grateful for my opportunity, the sparkle, support and friendship of my castmates, writers and crew.
