Paging, Dr. JD Dorian.
A teaser has been released for the Scrubs revival series, which will see Zach Braff return to Sacred Heart as J.D., 15 years after the original hospital comedy ended. Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke, who appear alongside Braff in the teaser, will also reprise their roles as Dr. Christopher Turk and Dr. Elliot Reed, respectively.
The official logline for the Scrubs reboot reads, “J.D. (Bruff) and Turk (Faison) join Scrubs together for the first time in a while. Medicine has changed, interns have changed, but their bromance has stood the test of time. Characters old and new sail the waters of the Sacred Heart with laughter, heart, and a few surprises along the way.”
New cast members joining Sacred Heart include Vanessa Bayer, Joel Kim Booster, Eva Bang, Jacob Dudman, David Gridley, Leila Mohammadi and Amanda Morrow. Other returning cast members include Robert Maschio, Phil Lewis, Judy Reyes, and John C. McGinley.
“Scrubs” first aired on NBC in 2001 and ran for seven seasons before being canceled. ABC then picked it up for an eighth season. Season 8 was scheduled to conclude the series, but the network later greenlit season 9, subtitled “Scrubs: Med School,” leaving McGinley and Faison as the only series regulars. Braff appeared in six of the season’s 13 episodes.
“Scrubs” alums Tim Hobart and Aseem Batra are serving as executive producers and showrunners on the revival of the series. Additional executive producers include Braff, Faison, Chalke, Randall Winston, Bill Lawrence via Doozer, Jeff Ingold, and Lisa Katzer. TV number 20 is the studio.
The reboot of “Scrubs” will premiere on ABC on February 25th at 8pm ET/PT. All episodes will be available to stream on Hulu.
