Jennifer Lopez did not attend tonight’s Critics Choice Awards. Her project, Kiss of the Spider-Woman, received only one nomination in a non-acting category. Lopez has been busy this week, playing the first four shows of a residency in Las Vegas.
Jennifer Lopez’s film Kiss of the Spider-Woman received just one nomination for Best Costume Design at tonight’s Critics’ Choice Awards. Naturally, that wasn’t enough to get Lopez to attend the ceremony in Santa Monica, Calif., especially considering she just finished her first weekend in Las Vegas. Star performed shows for four days: December 30th, December 31st, January 2nd, and January 3rd.
Kiss of the Spider Woman also hasn’t been nominated for next weekend’s Golden Globes, giving Lopez a chance to take a break before continuing with her role in early March. (Tickets can be purchased here.)
In October, Lopez spoke to NPR about the milestone of her role in Kiss of the Spider Woman, her first musical. “It’s great because if you’re lucky you can have a long career,” she said. “But for me, and for people like me, roles like this don’t come along every day. You know, the last time I played a big role like this, full of music and a big story, was Selena[in1997].”
She detailed how they shot the musical numbers in one take, explaining that director Bill Condon was “very adamant about shooting this musical in the style of a ’50s musical, and what they would do is not do these long sequences. So he said, ‘One of the reasons I really wanted you for this role is because I know you can do the number from beginning to end. Like, you could do it perfectly from beginning to end.’
“I really wanted to do[the role],” Lopez said, adding, “When you get a role like this, you have to dig really deep, not leave a crumb on the floor. So I think I learned that I could do it right away, and I don’t think you need to spend all your time creating a really great piece of art. But I wish I had more time[because the movie had just finished filming].” several weeks). ”
