Jennifer Lawrence did not attend tonight’s Critics Choice Awards. She was not nominated for her performance in “Die My Love.” Although the film itself was not nominated for Critics Choice, Lawrence is up for Best Female Actor in a Motion Picture or Drama at next Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards.
Jennifer Lawrence is scheduled to appear at the Golden Globes next Sunday, but the Die My Love star skipped the red carpet at tonight’s Critics’ Choice Awards. Neither Lawrence nor Die My Love were nominated, and Lawrence has no pressing reason to attend the ceremony in Santa Monica, Calif., especially considering she lives in New York City.
Lawrence, who is nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Female Actor in a Motion Picture or Drama, recently spoke with Leonardo DiCaprio on Variety’s “About Actors.” DiCaprio asked her what drew her to the project, in which Lawrence plays a new mother suffering from postpartum depression.
In the end, it turned out that the recommendation came from an industry legend, with Lawrence telling DiCaprio: “Martin Scorsese was reading this book in his book club and he said, ‘You should make a movie of this and star in it.’ So when I was reading, I really didn’t understand how this was going to become a movie. I felt that the author, Ariana Hurwitz, was able to really poetically express the deep, indescribable melancholy of an identity crisis through the use of getting lost in the woods and these visuals and metaphors. I didn’t know how to turn this into a movie, and I didn’t want to go back to Marty and say, “I don’t know, try someone else.” I hope you realized that this is a poem and not a literal story. And it was decided that Lynne Ramsey would be the only director[of this film]. I think she’s a poet.
He added, “Lynn has changed a lot. We made the main couple, who aren’t in the book, new people in town. That adds a huge element of melancholy to my characters. She was walking around like a caged tiger, and that added to the feeling of isolation that I think a lot of new parents have. Like, what is going on with my life now?”
