Nicola Peltz Beckham and Brooklyn Beckham reportedly skipped Selena Gomez’s wedding because the two were “not as close as they used to be.”
Reports of a feud began to surface last month after the pair conspicuously disappeared from the star-studded pairing of Gomez and Benny Blanco. On Tuesday, a source refuted claims that the pop star had been “disowned” and “betrayed” by Nicola and Brooklyn, insisting there was “no bad blood”.
“It’s true that relationships evolve and they’re not as close as they used to be, but nothing really happened,” a source told People magazine.
Representatives for Nicola and Brooklyn did not immediately respond to Page Six for comment.
Just before their lavish wedding in Santa Barbara, California, which featured A-list guests including Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran, Page Six exclusively reported that the couple had no plans to attend the wedding.
A source close to Nicola, 30, echoed similar sentiments, saying that their absence had nothing to do with a rift, but rather that they were in the midst of “pre-production for a very demanding film shoot” at the time.
Gomez, 33, and Nicola became friends after meeting at the Academy Museum Gala in October 2022. The following year, billionaire heiress Gomez told Cosmopolitan UK how she “hit it off” with the former Disney star after they attended an event together.
“And we’ve become very, very close. I feel like she’s my soul sister. I love her so much. She’s truly one of the most amazing people I’ve ever met in my life,” she said.
“She’s the kindest person ever. She truly has a heart of gold. I feel like I’ve known her forever,” Nicola added.
In January 2023, the former best friends debuted matching tattoos. While on a New Year’s Eve trip to Los Cabos with Brooklyn, 26, the couple had the word “angel” inked in delicate font on their forearms.
In another Instagram post from the trip, Gomez even joked that the couple, who tied the knot in April 2022, were a “threesome” and that she was his “plus one forever.”
The best friends seemed to be spending less time together after the Bill Murder star started dating Blanco, 37, in July 2023. Gomez even admitted that she missed the Bates Motel star in January 2024.
Later that month, Gomez and Blanco threw a slumber party to celebrate Nicola’s 29th birthday and shared several snaps from the party.
“I’m so grateful for the beautiful and kind people I’ve met in my life,” she captioned an Instagram post on her birthday.
“All my best friends surprised me with pajama night and we played games on my birthday 🥹 (My heaven!) Thank you so much for making me feel so loved,” she added, sending shoutouts to Gomez and Blanco.
“We love you all so much, thank you Benny for cooking the best food and to you and Sel for hosting us 😭😭🍔🥂.”
The friends were photographed celebrating Blanco’s 36th birthday in March 2024, and both shared photos from the party on Instagram, but the once-inseparable pair have not been seen together in public since.
