Alex Cooper’s husband, Matt Kaplan, is accused of defaming Unwell Network staff and threatening their careers.
The host of the “Call Her Daddy” podcast and Kaplan (who runs day-to-day operations for Unwell Network while his wife focuses on the podcast) first met during a Zoom call in 2020, and four years later, they said, “I do.”

Who is Matt Kaplan?
Kaplan focused on football and film while attending Columbia University, previously telling the podcast The Backlot that those were “the only two things[he]did for fun” while growing up.
He was the quarterback of the Lions football team and studied film with an emphasis on directing and screenwriting classes.
The filmmaker started his career as an assistant at Lionsgate before founding Chapter One Films.
As president of Awesomeness Films, he produced films such as “Before I Fall” and “The Lazarus Effect.”
In 2017, Mr. Kaplan founded Ace Entertainment, a company focused on youth films and television shows. Projects such as “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” and “The Perfect Date” were produced under the company.
“I got some friends over at Netflix and said, ‘I made this movie, and I think you’re going to love it,'” Kaplan said in “The Backlot” from “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.”
“And they saw it and bought it,” he added.
How did Alex Cooper meet Matt Kaplan?
In an April 2024 interview with Vogue, Cooper said she and Kaplan met on a Zoom call during the COVID-19 pandemic in July 2020.
“After back-to-back meetings, I attended my last meeting of the day with Matt’s company, ACE Productions,” she recalled.
“As soon as I got on Zoom, I started thinking, ‘Wow, this producer is so handsome, but stay focused, Alex.'” There were about five other people from his company on Zoom, but I just kept staring at Matt’s video square, Cooper explained.
After the phone call, they decided to take things to a romantic level.
“We had a few dinner dates in Los Angeles, sitting in a parking lot during a pandemic, and after that first dinner, there was no doubt in my mind that he was going to be the man I would spend the rest of my life with,” she recalled.
“This was a big thing for me because I’m very picky,” Cooper said.
Page Six exclusively reported that the two got engaged in April 2023.
When did Alex Cooper and Matt Kaplan get married?
Cooper told Vogue that she was initially nervous about getting married. However, after dating a Hollywood producer, she changed her mind.
“I’ve always been a cynic when it comes to marriage,[but]from the beginning of our relationship, I was honest with Matt and told him I might be interested in the whole ‘life partner’ thing,” Cooper admitted to the outlet.
“I grew up witnessing my parents living the love of a lifetime. They are still together, but this year marks 40 years,” she added.
“I had no expectations and I didn’t look for it because I was sure I’d never find what they had. Little did I know, I just needed to find Matt Kaplan.”
Cooper and Kaplan were married on April 6, 2024 in Riviera Maya, Mexico in front of their closest friends and family.
The podcaster walked down the aisle wearing a custom Danielle Frankel dress, which she says was her “dream” dress.
Who is Matt Kaplan’s ex-wife?
Kaplan was previously married to actress Claire Holt from 2016 to 2017.
The “Vampire Diaries” alum and Kaplan became engaged in July 2015 and married in April of the following year.
The day before their first wedding anniversary, Holt and Kaplan separated, citing “irreconcilable differences.”
Kaplan filed for divorce, and the “Originals” alum requested that her name be changed back to her maiden name.
Who other A-listers has Matt Kaplan dated?
Kaplan dated actress Ashley Olsen while attending Columbia University.
He and the “Full House” alum split in 2004 after three years together.
At the time, publicist Michael Pagnotta told People that their breakup was “amicable.” The representative also said that the two “parted on good terms” and “we wished each other happiness.”
Pagnotta also denied speculation of an affair, explaining that it was difficult for Olsen and Kaplan to maintain a long-distance relationship.
What are the charges against Matt Kaplan?
In April 2026, Bloomberg published a bombshell report alleging that Kaplan created a hostile work environment for “Call Daddy” employees.
A source close to Kaplan and Cooper’s production company, Unwell Network, claimed to the outlet that there is constant conflict between the film’s producers and staff.
While his wife focused on her podcast, Kaplan handled day-to-day operations and reportedly “developed a reputation for frequently yelling at staff.”
Some employees told Bloomberg that the company reportedly threatened to walk off movie sets and live tours.
A witness told the outlet that Mr. Kaplan allegedly berated staff members on Mr. Cooper’s new show, “Unwell Winter Games,” and threatened to not let him work in Hollywood if they failed, making the veteran employee cry.
Additionally, the production manager threatened to cancel Cooper’s live tour for the 2025 documentary “Call Her Alex.”
The crew members have filed a formal complaint and told leadership they will quit if Mr. Kaplan does not behave appropriately.
Page Six did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
