Wendy Osefo, who was arrested on Thursday on fraud charges, was allegedly seen wearing her anniversary band after she and her husband Eddie reported the ring missing.
Page Six confirmed that police became suspicious after the “Real Housewives of Potomac” star and Eddie received ring insurance money from a suspected burglary at their home.
In April 2024, Wendy and Eddie claimed their home was broken into while on vacation in Jamaica. They claimed that several expensive items were stolen, including branded bags and jewelry.
According to documents first obtained by Us Weekly, authorities searching their home noticed “a broken screen door on the roof and an unlocked window,” and that “access to the window required stepping on the toilet.”
“The toilet lid was down and there were no debris,” the document said. “When Sheriff’s Office personnel climbed onto the roof and returned to the home, they tracked the ‘sand’ from the roof back into the home.”
Additionally, the filing alleges that the Ocefos activated their home’s alarm system when they left for their trip and that “no movement was detected within the residence” while they were away.
“Activities such as package deliveries were observed on the Ring camera which was remotely monitored by Osefos,” the application states.
Eddie allegedly went on to make statements to two different insurance companies reporting the missing items.
“He was asked if the items listed had been returned, which he denied. He was asked if he had any other insurance, but did not disclose to HomeSite and the jeweler that he was also making a claim on his traveler’s insurance,” the document states.
Eddie and Wendy, 41, signed a statement demanding $2,500 for the building and $450,000 for the property.
Their lawyers argued that both men were wearing anniversary bands at the time of their loss. However, Eddie then called one of his insurance companies to report that his wife’s gold diamond commemorative band was allegedly missing.
On the same day, the claim was settled for $25,380. This includes a $4,500 replacement value for the Wendy’s commemorative band.
A subsequent police investigation revealed a photo of Wendy allegedly wearing the ring, and it was also discovered that the pair were “in significant debt”.
Law enforcement officials determined that some of the allegedly stolen items had actually been purchased before being returned to the store and that “a full refund had been offered prior to the alleged robbery.”
They were arrested and taken into custody Thursday by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, where they were charged with insurance fraud, conspiracy to commit insurance fraud and making false statements to a police officer.
By Friday, a representative for the couple told Page Six that the couple had “safely returned home with their family” and were “in good spirits.”
“They appreciate the outpouring of concern and support from their friends, fans, and colleagues,” the statement read.
“The Osefos look forward to their day in court with their defense team. At this time, they respectfully request privacy as they focus on their family and the upcoming legal process.”
