The long wait is officially over. After 30 years of anticipation, die-hard fans of “The Young and the Restless” finally got their wish. Their favorite soap supercouple, Cricket and Danny, have given marriage a second chance. The much-anticipated wedding is scheduled for November 21st, followed by a large reception on November 24th.

Making last-minute changes to your wedding dress usually leaves real-life brides in a completely nerve-wracking state. But on “Y&R,” that same adjustment translates into a moment of pure Hollywood inspiration, drawing inspiration from Selena Gomez and “Sex and the City.”

“We found this amazing dress that our viewers voted on,” says Laurie Bell, who has played Cricket since 1983. When the day came to record the wedding and reception, the actors and staff worked long hours. They noticed that Cricket stood up, sat down, and then stood up and sat down again. At the end of the day, costume designer Mandy Lyne approached Belle with the idea for a second gown, and Cricket came up with the idea of ​​wearing another, more casual and comfortable wedding dress for the reception.

Literally the night before, Bell and Lyne were talking about Selena Gomez’s wedding and the three stunning custom Ralph Lauren dresses she wore on her big day. It was a lightbulb moment. The line happened to already have the perfect dress as a candidate, but it wasn’t one of the three specific choices fans voted for. “Mandy asked, ‘This is the fourth dress that we really liked, but we thought it might be a little too casual for a candidate, how do you feel about changing into a reception dress?'” Bell recalls. “Mandy says, ‘Go to bed and think about it.’ … It was a really smart move, and I don’t think the fans were expecting this at all.”

Previously, it was a time-consuming process to gather potential dresses for fans to choose from. “Number one is to drop the silhouette,” says Lyne. “Laurie and I talked about what silhouettes would work best for her and her body, what Cricket would choose, and what Lauren[Fenmore]also has in her archives and arsenal. I said to Laurie, ‘Can we do a Carrie Bradshaw-like moment?'” Lyne said of the “Sex and the City” character played by fashionista Sarah Jessica Parker. “As a woman who’s never been married, I needed a Carrie Bradshaw moment. She’s like, ‘Girl, do what you love.'” So Laurie and I went to downtown Los Angeles and spent the day there. This is in addition to the time I already spend online. We spoke to Q Bridal’s dress designer. They’re watching the show, so I said, ‘Eat whatever you want.’ ”

Dressing the groom, played by Michael Damien, was much easier. “I was wearing about six pairs of Spanx. Nobody cares about Tom Ford tuxedos,” jokes Damian, who tried on the tux and immediately thought, “This is it.” Danny’s lapel pin is a diamond “C” (for Cricket/Christine).

Fans who have been pumping out Cricket and Danny since the ’90s are in for a treat. This couple has always been a fan favorite. Especially since the actors were actual teenagers when their friendship developed into love. The two married on-screen in Maui in 1990, but just five years later, a web of actions and lies tore everything apart.

“This shoot is special because it took 30 years to film, so there’s a lot of jovial excitement,” says Damien. “Our fans are probably the most supportive on the planet and have really stuck by us over the years and just haven’t lost faith. And I don’t think they’ll be disappointed because we have a really nice surprise on Friday. We’ll have some great castmates returning like my sister Patti Weaver (Gina) and Tricia Cast (Nina). And there’s going to be a lot of really nostalgic conversations talking about things that connect us to the past.”

There’s something almost fairytale-like about your first love reuniting, reuniting, and remarrying 30 years after breaking up. Neither Cricket nor Danny think twice about committing to each other again. “First love is more powerful than you can imagine, and you think about that person all the time. All the time,” Bell says. “Phyllis[who Danny married thinking she was pregnant with his child]and Paul were friends that she fell in love with, and I think they were always together, apart from a very nice, secure marriage. But when it comes to the love of a lifetime or the ‘what if’s, yeah, it’s always Danny.”

Damian agrees without hesitation. “When you watch clips of Danny, he has no doubts. He always says, ‘It’s going to happen. We’re in this together.'” He’s said that since day one. He never lost his faith. He just needed to convince Cricket. ”
