Kim Kardashian broke down in tears while studying for the California bar exam, which she ended up failing.
“I’m so tired and it feels like every time I feel like I’m one step ahead, something comes up and tries to stop it,” the reality star said in a clip she shared on Instagram over the weekend.
“Part of me wants to quit. I feel like my brain is going to explode.”
The video details how she prepared for the licensure exam, which determines whether a person is eligible to practice law in that particular state or territory, two weeks before taking the exam.
“I’ve been studying for four months straight, canceling all work, not answering any work calls, doing nothing but being a mom and studying,” she said, referring to her and ex-husband Kanye West’s four children: North, 12, Saint, 9, Chicago, 7, and Psalm, 6.
Kardashian said she sent her kids on a “great vacation” to help her focus while she was doing a “home stretch” two weeks before the test.
The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star also revealed that she had “some disc issues” in her back and had to rock a back brace to relieve the pain.
“I’ve been sharing much of this journey with you all, but this summer I’ve documented some of the last two weeks of study, the ups, the downs, and everything in between,” she captioned the post.
Kardashian added, “On November 7th, I found out I hadn’t cleared the hurdle. I was disappointed, but this wasn’t the end.”
“This dream means too much to me to run away from, so I’m going to keep studying and learning and expressing myself until I get there.”
In the comments section of the post, Kim received support from her sister Khloe Kardashian, who wrote that she is “very, very proud” to be the “All’s Fair” actress.
“I saw how hard you studied and how much you wanted this! Keep going! We’re not giving up! You got this baby! ❤️,” the Good American co-founder, 41, added.
“Kim, I get it! ❤️❤️,” City Girls rapper JT added.
“Kim, you are a fighter. This setback is just part of the journey… Your work ethic is inspirational. Sending you love on your way to your destiny 🤍,” longtime friend Malika Haqq commented.
On November 8, Kim revealed that she had failed the California bar exam.
“Well…I’m not a lawyer yet. I just play a well-dressed lawyer on TV,” she posted on her Instagram Stories, referring to her role as lawyer Alura Grant on Hulu’s legal drama “All’s Fair.”
“It’s been six years since I started this legal journey, and I’m still fully committed to passing the bar exam. There are no shortcuts and I’m not giving up. I’m just learning more and being more determined.”
She also thanked “everyone who has supported and encouraged” her thus far.
“Not reaching a goal is not a failure; it’s fuel,” she said. “Since I was so close to passing the exam, I was even more motivated.Let’s go!”
Kim plans to be able to retake the California bar exam in February 2026. A score of at least 1390 is required to pass.
