He kneeled on the ground and pulled out the rocks.
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelse announced their engagement Tuesday, with the pop star showing off a huge custom ring designed by the Kansas City Chiefs tight end himself.
The 35-year-old Pro Bowler helped create a vibrant cut sparkler in the old mine with the Kindred Lubeck from Artifex Fine Jewelry.
The elongated stone is placed on an engraved yellow gold band, and certainly fits Swift’s sweet vintage aesthetic.
“(The gorgeous cuts of the old mines) are popular in the 18th and 19th centuries, with their thick facets and romantic shine being appreciated,” Ajay Anand, CEO of the rare carat, told Page Six Styles, estimating its value at around 9 carats and around $1 million, depending on the colour and clarity.
He adds: “The ring design incorporates the appeal of the nail into a modern environment, and frankly, what we expect from Taylor Swift.”
Laurel Diamond engagement ring specialist Laura Taylor adds: “The cut is known for its soft edges and beautiful shine, giving it a dreamy, romantic feel that fits Taylor’s distinctive style.”
“This style feels accurate to Taylor. It stands out from the typical celebrity engagement rings we’ve seen in recent years. The old mine cuts, engraved bands and warm tones of gold give you a sense of a much more personal and timeless world from the minimalist platinum style worn by many in Hollywood.
Abelini founder Nilesh Rakholia estimates the stone is somewhere in the 7-10 carat range and agrees to a $1 million valuation.
While $1 million may seem like a lot to fall into the ring, Kelse became the NFL’s highest-paid tight end in 2024. If he followed Debeers’ “Diamonds are Forever,” the marketing campaign’s recommendation of spending two months on an engagement ring had to diverge into an eye-catching $5.75 million.

However, Swift may not carry anything very expensive. The most expensive ring available today on the Artifex Fine Jewelry site is a 5-carat cognac coloured old mine ring priced at $38,300.
Certainly, regardless of the price tag, the token fits Taylor Swift’s tee.
“What makes this design particularly impressive is the blend of vintage charm and modern minimalism. The yellow gold choice has brought about a great revival with a wonderful gem that is loved by the warmth and ability to enhance the brilliance of the white diamond,” says Rakuhoria.
“It also nods to antique inspiration and gives the ring a romantic, heirloom quality.”
Jared Jewellers, VP of Merchandising Angrimette, who placed the price at around $500,000, agrees to predict that the “Cruel Summer” singer can start a new wave of vintage-inspired engagement rings.
“Taylor Swift’s ring has a romantic, dreamy heirloom look,” she says. “It’s traditional with modern talent,” she says. “This ring matches the latest trends in bold gold looks, fancy cuts and oversized elongated stones.”
For now, the swift, placed in a rose-filled garden, has also gone with a classic look. She wore a striped silk polo Ralph Lauren dress, but Kelce adjusted it with a navy blue polo Ralph Lauren shirt.
I put on a swift accessory in brown Louis Vuitton sandals, and added more sparkles with a diamond-studded Cartier Santos De Moiselle watch, stacks of rings and heart-shaped earrings, and a Christmas present of “TNT” friendship bracelet from Kelse.
