Hoping to take advantage of Spain’s generous taxes and logistics incentives, Hollywood producers Mark Varadian (Transformers), Andrew Lazar (American Sniper), Craig Flores (Crawl) and Ben Everard (Yes Day) led a group of top producers to attend “elite” producer Zeta Studios’ inaugural Creative Summit and meet with key figures in the local industry.
The summit, conceived and hosted by Zeta Studios’ Hollywood head and manager John Kanak, was intended to act as a strategic “bridge” to Hollywood, highlighting both Zeta’s creative expertise and the incentives that Spain covets.
In addition to holding meetings with various institutions in Madrid, the delegation visited some of Spain’s main production centers, including the Canary Islands and the studios in Ciudad de la Luz, Alicante.
Mr. Kanak has worked on Netflix’s “Elite” and “Olympo” and HBO Max’s “When No One Sees Us” (“Cuando Nadie Nos. Underscoring Zeta Studios’ position as “one of Europe’s most dynamic companies” behind hits such as “Ve”, he pointed out that “the aim of the summit is to channel that momentum into partnerships with major US producers and to demonstrate how our staff, facilities and incentives in Spain are making it successful.” It is one of the most attractive production centers in the world. ”
“Zeta has proven that Spain has a strong production base that creates content that can compete on an international level. With strong leadership, the company is leveraging Spain’s diverse location and tax incentives to develop a base for continued expansion. This approach has established Zeta as a production company with a truly global reach.”
In a bold new phase in its international expansion plans, Zeta Studios has revealed that the event has already resulted in multiple projects and partnerships that will be announced soon.
Antonio Asensio, CEO of Zeta Studios, highlighted the company’s international commitment and said, “With this first creative summit, we at Zeta Studios We reaffirm our commitment to positioning ourselves as a natural bridge between the United States and Europe. Spain offers great creative talent, a unique location and competitive incentives, putting us in a good position. As a company, we have proven that we can compete on a global scale, and now, by partnering with Hollywood, we are also among the leaders in international production.”
Zetas has already established a foothold in Latin America, signing a deal with Wattpad Webtoon Studios to develop Latin American Spanish-language web novels, starting with an adaptation of Ariana Godoy’s “Follow My Voice,” and partnering with Brazil’s Conspirazón to produce “Bajo Preción,” a Spanish remake of Globo’s hit drama “Under Pressure.”
The studio has produced numerous original productions for platforms such as HBO Max (“Garcia!”), Netflix (“Olympo”), Prime Video (“Días mejores”), Movistar Plus+ (“La vida breve”) and Atreplayer (“Red Flags”).
In 2023, Zeta Studios appointed veteran Mexico City television executive Marcelo Tamburri as head of international content.
Upcoming releases and projects currently in production include director Carlos Solano’s feature debut, “Leo and Lou.” “La Mareta,” an action comedy directed by Carlos Cerrón and co-produced with Telecinco Cinema, and “Los Secretos de la Cortesana,” a new era series for Netflix set in 18th century Spain.
