Tiger Woods has announced plans to take a break from golf and undergo treatment after making headlines when he was arrested for drunk driving in Jupiter, Florida.
“I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today,” the professional golfer shared via X on Tuesday.
“I will be taking a period of time off to receive treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order to prioritize my health and work towards a lasting recovery.”
Woods, 50, said he is “committed” to taking the necessary time to “come back healthier, stronger and more focused, both personally and professionally.”
“I appreciate everyone’s understanding and support and ask that my family, loved ones, and myself maintain privacy at this time,” he continued.
The athlete was arrested on March 27 after causing a car accident at around 2pm local time and was charged with driving under the influence, criminal damage to property, and refusing to submit to a legal inspection.
Woods allegedly tried to pass a general-purpose pressure washer truck when he accidentally hit the “back end” of the truck’s trailer.
The crash caused his “dark-colored Land Rover” to overturn on the road, authorities said.
He was able to get out of the car unharmed and appeared to be alone during the shocking accident.
Sources exclusively told Page Six that Woods’ girlfriend Vanessa Trump, whom he has been dating since March 2025, was not with him at the time of the accident, nor was her 18-year-old daughter Kai.
The pair were last seen cheering on the Masters champion in public a few days ago at the Jupiter Links Golf Club tournament.
Meanwhile, photos taken at the scene showed Mr Woods standing next to his overturned car, attempting to make a phone call.
Skid marks on the road revealed the spot where the athlete lost control of his vehicle, veered off to the shoulder of the road and overturned.
Troopers say the crash appears to have happened in the town where Woods currently lives.
After being taken into custody, the golfer “exhibited signs of impairment” and was given a breathalyzer test.
The PGA golfer took a breathalyzer test, which came back negative, but refused to take a urine test.
He was held in the Martin County Jail for eight hours in accordance with Florida law and was photographed looking disappointed shortly after his release.
Woods has a history of being involved in multiple car accidents. In February 2021, he was seriously injured in another rollover accident while driving in California.
