Post Truth, a documentary by the pioneering feature chief, which was released in Turkey this summer, is set to launch internationally from the upcoming Warsaw Film Festival.
The English work is directed by the generation AI artist Alkan Avcıoğlu, who has “postled the truth” using artificial intelligence that includes all visuals, sounds, music and voice. Driving into the relationship between humans and technology, Doc was co-written by interdisciplinary artist Vikki Bardot and director.
“Post Truth” is inspired by Godfrey Reggio (“Koyaanisqatsi”)’s vision of a large film and references to filmmakers such as Andrej Tarkovskij, Jean-Luc Godard, and Leos Carax. “It has a self-reflective critical tone and focuses on how technical thinking has led the world to an age where facts don’t matter,” according to the advertising material.
Turkish art house distributor Bashka Cinema released “Post Truth” in Turkish cinemas in around 20 cities in July, drawing positive reviews from local critics.
“Artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly bolder in the world of cinema, often supporting human work in hidden ways, and sometimes even replacing it,” Valtek Parsin, programming director at the Warsaw Film Festival, said in a statement. “‘Post Trut’h openly uses AI to ask basic questions about the world and the present and future of the human race.” The fest will be held from October 10th to 19th.
“Post Truth” is not a cheap trick to show AI or gimmicks, but a conceptual and detailed investigation into the boundaries of what a documentary is,” Avcıoğlu pointed out.
Avcıoğlu worked as a film critic before turning to film acquisition. He left the film industry in 2022, exploring AI storytelling, and later appeared as an AI visual artist on display at major art fairs such as Paris photography and Art Basel Miami. His work has also been auctioned at Christie’s. He recently collaborated with renowned photographer Edward Berthisky at an exhibition in New York this month.
