“The Lowdown” has been renewed for season 2 on FX and Hulu.
Production on a Western starring Ethan Hawke begins in Tulsa this spring.
Created by Reservation Dogs boss Starlin Harjo, The Lowdown centers on Lee Rabon, a citizen journalist and self-proclaimed truther, who is drawn into the center of a local conspiracy by revelations about the powerful Washburg family. When Dale Washberg’s suspicious suicide occurs after the publication of his article, Lee follows a trail of breadcrumbs to find out the truth.
The first season also starred Keith David and featured guest players Kyle MacLachlan, Gene Tripplehorn, Tim Blake Nelson, Ryan Keira Armstrong, Michael “Killer Mike” Render, Kanietio Horn, Tracy Letts, Peter Dinklage, and Graham Greene.
Harjo will executive produce “The Lowdown” along with Garrett Basch, Hawk, Ryan Hawk and Duffy Boudreau. Produced by FX Productions, all episodes are available to stream on Hulu.
Alison Herman, Variety’s chief television critic, loved the series, calling it “the best crime story” and “a fun, miscellaneous exploration of the frayed edges of society” in her review. According to her review, “‘The Lowdown’ boasts a more prestigious, urban setting than ‘Reservation Dogs,’ but fans of that series will recognize its humor and love for its colorful, carefully constructed characters.” Ranking the series among the top 10 TV shows of the year, he wrote, “‘The Lowdown’ recreates the feeling of leafing through a hard-boiled paperback in Lee’s busy bookstore, with Hawke leading a cast of colorful characters.”
