Terry Crews and Jermaine Harris are set to star in Inauguration Day, a coming-of-age film set in a high school on January 20, 2009, the day of President Barack Obama’s inauguration.

Described as a “socially resonant drama,” the film is executive produced by Grammy Award-winning artist and entrepreneur will.i.am and marks the feature directorial debut of Sundance alumnus Sterling Hampton IV (“Kylie”).

“Inauguration Day” is based on Hampton’s experience attending a predominantly white school during President Obama’s 2009 inauguration, and follows “a well-intentioned celebration thrown into chaos by student conflicts and shifting alliances.” Harris, who recently starred in Tyler Perry’s Jaws: College Road Trip on Netflix, plays Frederick, an “outsider navigating unrequited love, identity, and a need to belong” at the center of the turmoil. Cruise (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, White Chicks) plays Anthony, Frederick’s big dad who “livens up” the situation.

Hampton will direct from a script by Sabrina Lassague (Tall Tales and Murder), who also stars in the film. Rounding out the ensemble cast are Bert Johnson (High School Musical), Lexi Underwood (Cruel Summer), Tim Johnson Jr. (Saturdays), and Israel Johnson (Based on Musical). The cast includes Victoria Ogbonna (Mean Boys), Sean Lue (The Cleaning Lady), Carly Rosenberg (The Office), Grace Weather (Saving Buddy Charles), and Tevin Johnson. (“Cross”) supporting role.
