“Outer Banks” co-creator and director Jonas Pate has been accused of molesting a young woman working as a production assistant on the Netflix series. He reportedly grabbed her face and shook her while screaming.
A source told Variety that “Outer Banks” star Chase Stokes witnessed Pate exhibiting physical and verbal aggression and immediately intervened to protect the PA. After he separated the two, fellow actor Madeleine Cline also intervened to defuse the conflict.
The Netflix series is currently producing its fifth and final season in Dubrovnik, Croatia. A representative for Netflix did not respond to Variety’s request for comment.
“Outer Banks” follows a group of teenagers in a coastal North Carolina town as they navigate love, friendship, and social divisions as they investigate why their father, the leader of the group, goes missing. The series debuted on Netflix in 2020 and was renewed for a fifth and final season in November 2024. In addition to Stokes and Klein, the cast also includes Madison Bailey, Jonathan Davis, Drew Starkey, Karasia Grant, Austin North, Fiona Palomo, J. Anthony Crane, and Karen Moss.
Pate co-produced Outer Banks with his twin brother Josh Pate and Shannon Burke. He also co-created Amazon Prime Video’s musical teen drama “The Runarounds” with his brother and Burke. Pate began his career writing and directing the 1996 thriller “The Grave” before creating the supernatural drama “G vs E” (later renamed “Good vs Evil”) with Josh. His other credits include “Surface,” “Friday Night Lights,” “Aquarius,” “Iron Fist” and “New Amsterdam.”
