Studiocanal is expanding its UK leadership team by employing Paul Gilbert as the SVP of the English series. He is based in London and reports to the Managing Director of TV MK Kennedy.
Gilbert was previously a commissioning editor at Sky Studios and produced many series on executives, including Joe Burton’s Burton Award-winning “Lazarus Project,” “Amadeus,” “The Town Called Maris,” “Tinster,” and “The Fear Index.”
Under her new role in Studiocanal, Gilbert will lead the development and production of the Premium Series, from the UK and US.
Gilbert will also work closely with the studio’s production companies, including urban mythological films, photography companies, Sunny Marco, Strong Film & Television, Birdie Pictures and recently announced Block Media.
Gilbert, for example, is executive produced by Ronan Bennett and Studiocanal’s political thriller, Army of Shadows (for Channel 4 and Canal+), which reads “Apollo has fallen.” “Apollo Falled” is the second article in the anthology kicked off in “Paris Falled”, and in the first in-house series of Study Canal, breaking the record of ratings on the canal and breaking the charts in the US with Amazon UK in full.
Kennedy, who joined Studiocanal from Netflix about two years ago, praised Gilbert for his “superb taste, sharp storytelling instincts and deep relationships in the UK’s creative community.”
“He plays a pivotal role in accelerating the growth of our English production sector, providing thought and support to the umbrella producers who are studying,” he continued.
Gilbert states, “Studiocanal is a synonym for world-class storytelling, so it’s a privilege to be involved in such a pivotal moment in its evolution.”
“With the growing global appetite for bold and premium English television series, Studiocanal’s unparalleled reputation, and the opportunity to capitalize on its demand through its ability to self-produce and finances, is appealing,” continued Gilbert. He said the company has the ambitiousness of “promoting bold ideas and providing the best writers, directors and producers with a series that viewers want to see and talk about everywhere.”
