Bowen Yang appeared on Saturday Night Live’s “Weekend Update” as former U.S. Congressman George Santos and talked with co-host Colin Jost about what he’s been up to since his release from prison.
During the show, Jost mentioned the upcoming New York City Marathon before reluctantly introducing Santos as the “number one marathon runner in the world.”
“Can you believe I just finished a marathon?” Yan’s Santos said, to which Jost replied, “The marathon is tomorrow.”
“Yes, it’s a record. I already won!” said Santos of Yan.
In October, President Donald Trump commuted the sentence of Santos, who was sentenced to more than seven years in prison for wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. Since his release, the disgraced former politician has embarked on a media comeback tour.
“I’m going to be on all these shows to tell the truth about what prison is like,” said Yang, who plays Santos.
“Well, your prison was minimum security, right?” Jost asked.
“Yes, I’m black, but I was in prison with other white-collar criminals,” said Santos of Yang.
“You’re not black,” Jost told him.
“Rachel Dolezal, are you accusing me of lying about race just like that horrible woman who lied about being black? Do you remember her?” Yang’s Santos asked. “Because that was me.”
In a later conversation, Jan Santos said he was rich now because he “just went on a trip to the Louvre.” He then unzipped his top to reveal a large necklace.
“Did you steal it?” asked Jost.
“You stole it back,” Yang’s Santos replied. “Because it belonged to my ancestors, the Zareth tribe.”
Elsewhere on Weekend Update, co-host Michael Che mentioned that King Charles stripped his brother Prince Andrew of his royal title because of his ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
“Prince Andrew was stripped of his royal title ‘Prince’ due to his involvement with Jeffrey Epstein, but he says he won’t be able to become a prince again unless he is kissed by a young princess,” Choi joked.
The latest Weekend Update also poked fun at President Trump’s White House toilet model, the state of Texas suing Tylenol over its link to autism, and Japan’s new Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s announcement that she will nominate President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.
In response to Takaichi’s nomination, Choi quipped, “I can’t believe I can say this, but thankfully no one listens to women’s opinions.”
