Rome’s MIA Market will launch a new department dedicated to animated series called the Animated Series Gap Financing Market, an innovative hub to give European productions access to international finance, and new initiatives focused on experiential networking.
According to a statement, MIA (the acronym stands for Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo or International Audiovisual Market) will launch the Animated Series Gap Financing Market, conceived as a “new industry format aimed at projects already supported and partially financed by broadcasters.” Producers and broadcasters will seek international co-producers, co-financiers and co-commissioners to pitch their animated series projects, with the goal of completing financing and allowing production to begin.
The Investment Hub will be a two-day platform for in-depth discussions on European and international financial funds that support production. MIA said it will provide European and international operators with a clear and concrete view of the co-production funds and equity investors available and how to access them.
The unique pre-Mipcom boutique market is also launching Casa MIA Networking Lounge, a new space located close to the main market area and accessible to all authorized participants, which aims to “redefine the market experience and enhance its relational aspects,” the statement said.
At a press conference in Cannes, Rome MIA market head Gaia Tridente said the market is undergoing a transformation that aims to consolidate its vertical content segments into a more integrated industry platform.
“The aim is to respond to the real needs of the sector, create new economies and provide tangible services.”
It is a tool for the development and sustainability of companies in this sector,” the statement said.
“With the 2026 edition, MIA takes another step in strengthening its identity as an international platform serving the entire film and audiovisual industry,” said Alessandro Ussai, President of the Italian Film Association ANICA.
The 12th MIA will be held in the Eternal City from October 19th to 23rd.
