Robert Irwin knows he has big shoes to fill in “dance with the stars.”
While chatting with 6 Page 6 in the Ballroom on Tuesday night, the Wildlife Conservationist raved about the advice and support he received from his professional partner Derek Huff and sister Bindy Irwin, who won the Season 21 Mirror Ball.
“Bindi said, ‘I really leaned down on this and really tasted it every second,'” Robert explained. “She was here the whole time. She made it for three months. She said she won and passed in the blink of an eye.”
Robert, 21, said that 27-year-old Bindi was “everything” for him.
“Bindi is an inspiration for me in so many aspects of life. Dance is one of them, but in every aspect. She’s always like my second mom. He went on.
“My family is here to support (me and Witney) to be here on this journey. It means the world. It’s really cool.”
The “DWTS” cast has accumulated a lot of talent this season, but many fans on social media have already called Robert a “front runner” and have a “big chance” in victory. Needless to say, he holds a good hand with his professional partner, Whitney Carson.
Robert said the advice he received from Bindi really “reflected” what Carson had been sharing with him in the rehearsals.
“Any moment you won’t come back,” explained the 31-year-old choreographer. “Every nerve, it always comes, but I just remember that there’s a bigger purpose. It’s more than a dance competition. It’s the way we make people feel.”
Still, Carson admitted to Page 6 that the pressure to get “another Irwin” to the mirror ball is undoubtedly continuing. Her strategy to make that happen?
“I just say it takes a week at a time. Take care of what you can control,” she said. “I do my best and he does his best every day, so we’re trying to keep doing it!”
During “One Hit Wonders Night” on Tuesday, Robert and Carson performed tango to “moving the feet” by junior seniors.
The duo received a 22/30 total score from judges Huff, Carrie Anne Inaba and Bruno Toniori. Star Whitney Lewitt of “The Secret Life of a Mormon Wife” and her professional partner Mark Barass came in first place on the leaderboard.
The result came a week after Huff told Robert that his premier night performance (Steppenwolf’s “Birth and Be Wild” jibe was the “best first dance” in the history of “DWTS”.
“To be honest, I don’t know what to say. I’ve been in an absolute shock for the past two weeks,” Zookeeper said of receiving that type of feedback.
“I am very grateful for the judges and the whole process, but I am grateful to live what childhood dreams are.
“Dancing with the Stars” will return to “Tiktok Night” ABC and Disney+’s “Tiktok Night” next Tuesday at 8pm, with a new episode airing on Hulu the following day.
