“Shogun” Season 2 will once again expand the cast with the addition of Japanese pop star and actor Ren Meguro.

Meguro will participate in the series as Kazutada. After debuting as a member of the idol group Snow Man in 2020, the 28-year-old broke out as a film and TV actor. His television work includes overseas productions such as “Silent,” “The Trillion Game,” and “The Beginning of the Sea.”

Meguro said in a statement, “I am extremely honored to be joining the cast of ‘Shogun’ Season 2.” “When ‘Shogun’ was released on Disney+ last year, I was deeply moved by the series’ unique and magnificent portrayal of Japan, which is different from previous depictions. As a Japanese person, I felt a strong urge to be a part of this groundbreaking work.”

He added, “I am dedicated to honoring the legacy of so many people and carefully shaping the role that has been entrusted to me in this amazing series. I can’t wait for you to watch Season 2 of Shogun and share this amazing journey with us.”

He joins fellow newcomers Asami Mizukawa (Aya), Masataka Kubota (Hinata), Sho Kaneda (Hidenobu), Takaaki Enoki (Lord Ito), and Jun Kunimura (Goda).

The original cast returning for season 2 includes stars Hiroyuki Sanada and Cosmo Jarvis, as well as Fumi Nikaido, Shinnosuke Abe, Hiroto Kanai, Yoriko Horaguchi, Tommy Bastow, Yuko Miyamoto, Eita Okuno, and Yuka Kouri.

According to the official logline, ‘Shogun’ season 2 is set 10 years after the events of season 1 and follows the historically inspired story of two men from different worlds whose destinies are inextricably intertwined.

Directors Hiromi Kamata and Takeshi Fukunaga, who helmed episodes in season 1, will return to direct season 2. Anthony Byrne, Kate Herron, and series co-creator Justin Marks are also set to direct episodes for season two.

Season 2 writers include co-creator Rachel Kondo, Marks, Shannon Goss, Matt Lambert, Meghan Huang, Emily Yoshida, Kailyn Puente, and Sophie Somolov.

“Shogun” is based on the 1975 novel by James Clavell, created for television by Kondo and Marks, and produced by FX Productions. They will also serve as executive producers along with Michaela Clavell, Edward L. McDonnell, Michael De Luca and Sanada. Jarvis will serve as co-executive producer along with Eriko Miyagawa.
