Elton John’s children are all grown up!
The teenagers, who she shares with musician husband David Furnish, posed with their parents for a new family portrait obtained by People magazine.
Zachary, 15, and Elijah, 13, both wore simple black T-shirts and matching black loafers for the photoshoot, which was taken in their home library.
John, 78, took a more stylish approach in a dark purple suit with blue glasses and sneakers, while Furnish, 63, wore a green suit and light blue shirt.
Also in the photo were two dogs, Labradors Joseph and Jacob.
The portrait was taken by photographer Catherine Opie three days before Christmas and will be exhibited at London’s National Portrait Gallery, according to Britain’s Telegraph newspaper.
“It is a great honor for our family to be photographed by Catherine Opie and displayed at the National Portrait Gallery,” John and Furnish told the magazine. “We are huge fans of her work and are proud to have her beautiful and inspiring photographs in our collection.”
Opie also spoke passionately about the experience, telling the Telegraph that it was “a real honor” to work with the family, adding: “For me it represents the humanity of what a family is.”
Victoria Siddal, director of the National Portrait Gallery, also issued a statement.
“This is a celebration not only of Sir Elton John’s extraordinary musical achievements, but also the important humanitarian and philanthropic work he and David have undertaken in recent decades, and the family they have built,” she explained.
John and Furnish originally met through mutual friends in 1993 and entered into a civil union in 2005.
Since then, they welcomed two children through a surrogate mother and officially married on December 21, 2014.
The “Tiny Dancer” singer later called fatherhood “the best thing” during a guest appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in 2016.
“If you had told me 10 years ago, I would have married the man I love and been on your show and had two beautiful children, I would have said, ‘You put acid in my drink,'” he joked at the time.
“But life has its challenges, and life throws you curveballs. Great curveballs. And these two kids were born at a time when I never thought I would have kids. There are no words to describe how much we love these kids. They are truly amazing.”
In 2019, the legendary musician said he tries to forget about his stage persona when he’s at home with his sons.
“They know what daddy does, but I don’t bring Elton home. I try to leave Elton on stage,” John told reporters at the time.
“They know dad is famous, but they’re pretty down to earth when it comes to that. They love dad’s music, but they also like a lot of other people’s music.”
