The first plot details for Rachel Sennott’s HBO series “I Love LA” have been revealed in a new trailer.
In the new video, Sennot plays Maia, an employee at a talent management company whose long-lost frenemy, Talulah (Odessa Azion), a social media influencer, reappears in her life and is vying for a promotion to the position of junior manager.
“Luck is only when preparation meets opportunity. Work hard until your idol becomes your rival,” Maia tells herself in the mirror before the trailer cuts to a scene where she is denied a promotion. When she returns home from work and tells her boyfriend Dylan (Josh Hutcherson) about her day, Talulah comes running towards her, wearing only a towel, shouting, “I’m surprised you, bitch!” Maia doesn’t seem excited to see her.
Talulah says the apartment looks familiar, and Maia says it’s the apartment they were supposed to live in together a long time ago. “So, are you still here?” Talulah asks in shock, which offends Maia. In another scene, Maia tells her friends Alani (True Whitaker) and Charlie (Jordan Firstman), “I made her successful. I can do it for other bitches too.”
Still, Maia and Talulah continue to spend more time together, partying and spending time with various eccentric characters in Los Angeles. This friendship causes tension in Maia and Dylan’s relationship, but Dylan says, “These people have endless ambitions. They want success, money, a nice house, and everything else.” Later in the trailer, he asks Maia, “Have you noticed that you’ve changed a lot since Talulah got here?”
“I Love LA” will premiere on November 2nd, with episodes airing weekly until the final episode on December 21st. Sennott will serve as executive producer along with Emma Barry, Ida Rogers, Max Silvestri and Loreen Scafaria, and the film will be directed by Sennott, Scafaria, Bill Benz and Kevin Bray. In addition to the main cast, the series features guest stars including Leighton Meester, Moses Ingram, Lauren Holt, Elijah Wood, Quenlyn Blackwell, Josh Brenner, Floy Gutierrez, Colin Woodell, and Tim Baltz.
