‘Mirzapur’ star Pankaj Tripathi is making his first foray into production with the eight-episode drama ‘The Perfect Family.’
Presented as a JAR series and produced by Ajay Rai and Mohit Chhabra under the JAR Pictures banner, the show is one of India’s first full-length series to debut on YouTube using a structured payment model. This approach follows the previous example of Aamir Khan’s ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’, which opted to release directly on YouTube after its theatrical release.
Directed by Sachin Pathak and produced by Palak Bhambri, ‘The Perfect Family’ premiered on JAR Series’ official YouTube channel, with the first two episodes available for free forever. Viewers can access the remaining episodes with a one-time purchase of INR59 (65 cents) per episode.
The series features an ensemble cast including Gulshan Devaiah, Neha Dhupia, Seema Pahwa, Manoj Pahwa, Giraja Oak Godbole, Kaveri Seth and Hirva Trivedi. The story centers around the Karkarya family and young Dhaani Karkarya. Dhaani Karkarya is an emotionally sensitive child whose anxiety attack at school sends the entire family into therapy, triggering a series of revelations about family patterns, dysfunction, and expectations.
“‘The Perfect Family’ is incredibly close to my heart, not only for its story, but also for the bold distribution route we chose,” Tripathi said. “Today, viewers discover stories first-hand, and platforms like YouTube have evolved into powerful spaces for premium long-form content. Creating my first series with a model that moves away from traditional formats felt both refreshing and essential.”
“When I first heard this idea, I was immediately impressed. This is a true story told with a warm and humorous touch,” he added. “Sachin has tackled sensitive subjects with great empathy and balance, and we believe families around the world will see a part of themselves in this show. We hope viewers will embrace this series and this new way of delivering stories.”
Producer Mr. Lai said, “JAR At Pictures, we have always believed in expanding the possibilities of storytelling, not just in form but in the way stories reach people. With To and Pankaj stepping into production for the first time, we felt Perfect Family was the perfect project to define this new space. We’ve believed in this show from day one and can’t wait for audiences around the world to experience it.”
Each of the eight episodes lasts approximately 35-40 minutes. “The Perfect Family” will premiere exclusively on the JAR Series YouTube channel on November 27th.
