Set to collaborate for the first time with acclaimed director Kartik Subbaraj, Sikiya Entertainment began production on the film in Madurai in southern India on Monday.
The Tamil film comes under the banner led by Oscar winners Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain and the filmmakers behind ‘Pizza’, ‘Jigarthanda’, ‘Petta’, ‘Iraivi’, ‘Mercury’, ‘Jagame Thantiram’, ‘Mahaan’, ‘Jigarthanda Double X’ and ‘Retro’. The shooting began with a blessing ceremony.
Shikuya’s credits include India’s Academy Award winning short documentary ‘The Elephant Whisperers’, as well as ‘The Lunchbox’, ‘Masaan’, ‘Pagglait’ and India’s National Film Award winning ‘Kathal’. The company has built its name on stories that combine local storytelling with cross-cultural resonance.
This new film will be Subbaraj’s 10th directorial work. His work over the past decade has established him as a unique creative force in the Tamil film industry.
“At Sikhya, we have always believed in nurturing original voices and telling the bold stories of our country that transcend cultures,” Monga Kapur said. “Partnering with Karthik feels like a natural extension of that mission. Karthik’s films are grounded, inventive and highly original, yet have a universal feel. He bridges mass appeal with an auteur’s vision with ease, and I’m thrilled to be a part of this journey with Karthik.”
Director Subbaraj said, “I have always admired the type of cinema that Sikhya represents. It truly aligns with the artistic vision that I have always aspired to execute. The collaboration with Guneet and Achin, who have built a legacy of meaningful award-winning films, is truly special and together I’m excited to be working on this. The story we’re creating is very close to my heart, and I’m happy to have found the right producer for the same piece of work. I’m looking forward to this new and exciting collaboration.”
Director Jain further added, “Kartik brings a rare balance of craft and instinct, at once cult and commercial. His films are unpredictable yet deeply emotional. We are thrilled to be working with a filmmaker who understands both the pulse of the audience and the heart of the story. This partnership reflects Sikhya’s mission to express powerful and grounded stories through a truly global cinematic language.”
