Nicole Kidman stars as the chief medical examiner in the premiere of Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming series Scarpetta, an adaptation of Patricia Cornwell’s novel.
This crime thriller series follows the highly skilled Dr. Kay Scarpetta, who is determined to uncover the true identity of a serial killer and prove that the incident that made her rise 28 years ago was not her undoing.
Scarpetta stars Jamie Lee Curtis as Scarpetta’s sister Dorothy Farinelli, Bobby Cannavale as Detective Pete Marino, Simon Baker as FBI profiler Benton Wesley, and Ariana DeBose as Scarpetta’s tech-savvy niece Lucy Watson. The show’s dual timelines are completed by Rosie McEwen, Amanda Righetti, Jake Cannavale (Bobby’s son), and Hunter Parrish, who play younger versions of Kidman, Curtis, Cannavale, and Baker’s characters, respectively.
The series follows Scarpetta’s journey from being the chief medical examiner in the 1990s to the present day when she returns to her hometown to take up her old job and investigate a gruesome murder. According to the logline, “In her pursuit of justice, Scarpetta must navigate complex relationships, including a troubled relationship with her sister Dorothy Farinelli, confront long-standing professional and personal grudges, and face a secret that threatens to unravel everything she’s built.”
Liz Sarnoff will serve as showrunner and executive producer through Sarnoff TV, along with Kidman and Per Saari through Blossom Films. Curtis, from Comet Pictures. Cornwell through P&S Project. and Jason Blum, Jeremy Gold, Chris Dickie, and Chris McCumber through Blumhouse Television. David Gordon Green directed five episodes and is also an EP with Amy Sayers. The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Blumhouse Television in association with Blossom Films, Comet Pictures, and P&S Projects.
