Shimon Hayut, the infamous con man who was the subject of Netflix’s popular documentary The Tinder Swindler, has been arrested after allegedly stealing more than $52,000 from a Berlin woman. Heya was arrested Tuesday in Georgia, according to the New York Times.

Hayut was previously arrested for fraud in 2019 and sentenced to Israel to 15 months in prison. Five months later in prison, he was released.

“The Tinder Swindler” investigated Hayut’s romance with multiple women he met on Tinder, spent money on luxury items, a five-star hotel holiday and traveled on a private jet. According to the documentary, Hayut impersonated the son of a wealthy oligarch and created multiple credit lines using the names and personal information of the women they went on a date from the app.

Hayut was arrested at Batumi International Airport on September 14th after being questioned by authorities. He was accused of stealing about $52,000 from one of the women he matched, and spent thousands of dollars using credit cards and telephone contracts under her identity. Previously, the woman paid about $10,600 to stay on Cayman Island for a hotel and flight in Heyut after revealing that her credit card was blocked. She claims she was not repaid for her purchase. Hayut denied the allegation.

On Tuesday, the court ruled that Heyat would be held in prison for three months or until Germany handed him over. Hayut’s lawyer Sagiv Rotenberg revealed that Hayut is suing his detention and that he had planned to seek help in firing his case in Germany.
