Mark Harmon will reprise his role as Leroy Jethro Gibbs in an upcoming episode of “NCIS: Origins.”
Harmon, who played Gibbs on NCIS for 18 seasons and narrates NCIS: Origins, will appear on screen for the first time since the prequel series’ 2024 pilot during the Veterans Day crossover event.
The crossover will air Nov. 11, starting with “NCIS: Origins” at 8 p.m., followed by “NCIS” at 9 p.m. According to the official description, “Young Gibbs (Austin Stowell) and his team investigate the death of a naval officer in a small town in the ’90s, but the case is unexpectedly re-opened in the present day.”
“Four years ago, Gibbs disappeared to Alaska to live a life of solitude,” said co-showrunners David J. North and Gina Lucita Monreal. “We know how many fans have missed Mark and are wondering what Gibbs is up to today. Now, we’re so excited to announce that Mark Harmon will be returning as Leroy Jethro Gibbs in the NCIS crossover event ‘Origins’ on November 11th. I don’t want to give too much away, but suffice it to say, Gibbs is no longer alone. ”
“I’m so proud of the storytelling that David and Gina are doing with ‘Origins,'” Harmon said. “They continue to push the boundaries and delve deeper into the characters’ backstories. They came to me with an idea for Gibbs that I liked, and I thought it was a good opportunity to check in with him. I hope the fans enjoy it.”
“NCIS: Origins” depicts a young Gibbs in the early ’90s. Season 2, currently airing, follows the NCIS Camp Pendleton team led by Mike Franks (Kyle Schmidt) and Gibbs’ early career as a special agent. The series is produced by CBS Studios and executive produced by North, Monreal, Harmon, and Sean Harmon.
