“Daily Show” host Michael Costa plays a different type of anchor in Tracy Morgan’s “The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins,” which premieres Jan. 18.
Costa will guest star on the upcoming NBC comedy series as Brett Mann, the smug and arrogant host of a “SportsCenter”-style show. (Costa himself is a former professional athlete, host of the Tennis Anyone podcast, and a contributor to Tennis Channel.)
Morgan leads “The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins” as a disgraced former football star on a mission to restore his image alongside acclaimed filmmaker Arthur Tobin (played by Daniel Radcliffe). In the process of reclaiming his place in greatness, Reggie is forced to confront the ghosts of his past. The cast also includes Erica Alexander as Monica, Reggie’s ex-wife, agent, and business manager, as well as Bobby Moynihan, Precious Way, and Jalyn Hall.
“Reggie Dinkins” will have an early premiere on Sunday, immediately following the NFL game between the Rams and Bears. The series will then resume with an encore of the pilot and new episodes on February 23 at 8 p.m.
The series reunites Morgan with “30 Rock” creator Tina Fey, who also serves as an executive producer on “Reggie Dinkins.” Robert Carlock and Sam Means are co-showrunners and writers, and executive producers along with Morgan, Eric Gurian, and David Miner.
The series is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studios Group. Little Stranger Co.; 3 Arts Entertainment; Bevel Gear; Means to end production. and Streetlife Productions Inc.
Costa is an Emmy Award-winning comedian who sits behind the “Daily Show” desk on Comedy Central. He is the principal of El Centro Management.
