The second season of the German romance series “Maxton Hall – The World Between Us” has reached number one worldwide on Amazon Prime Video just days after its launch.
After Season 2 launched on Nov. 7, “Maxton Hall” became the top series in 42 major markets, including the U.S., U.K., Germany, France, Australia, Italy, Spain and Canada, according to FlixPatrol data. It has been the top daily show in the U.S. since Sunday and was in the top three in 51 markets. This is the highest return season performance within three days since the Season 3 debut of fellow Prime Video hit “The Summer I Turned Pretty.”
Produced by Fremantle’s UFA, Maxton Hall tells the story of Ruby Bell (Harriet Herbig-Matten), a scholarship student at elite private school Maxton Hall, who witnesses an explosive secret between her professor and the sister (Damien Harden) of wealthy heir James Beaufort. James tries to silence Ruby, but their conflict develops into an unexpected romance complicated by social status and family drama. The series is directed by Martin Schreier and executive produced by UFA Fiction’s Marcus Brunnemann and Ceylan Yildirim, along with producer Valentin Debler. “Maxton Hall,” based on Mona Kasten’s best-selling novel series “Save You,” was written by Yildirim with Juliana Lima Dene and Marlene Melchior in the writers’ room.
“This season explores the universal yearning for connection, not only for Ruby and James, but also through Lydia’s search for love with Graham Sutton and the intertwined stories of our ensemble. Some characters face challenges that push them to their limits and reveal new sides to their personalities,” Yildirim told Variety. “Martin Schreier’s direction brings this vision to life with breathtaking delicacy. His aesthetic, combined with our DOP Martin Schlecht’s dreamlike imagery, creates a magnetic force that draws the audience deep into the characters’ emotional landscape. From epic cinematic moments to intimate close-ups, every frame… reflects the resilience, vulnerability, and courage to love that is at the heart of this story. My hope is that this series will remind viewers that love is always worth fighting for. I’m proud and excited that the second season is as resonant as the first, as the world around us begins to shake.”
Season 1 of “Maxton Hall” became a global sensation and quickly led to the greenlighting of season 2 (the show was renewed for a third season prior to the launch of season 2). According to Amazon data, “Maxton Hall” had the largest global opening week audience for a foreign original in Prime Video history. Since its first season began in May 2024, “Maxton Hall” has charted as the No. 1 show on Prime Video in 82 countries and ranked in the top 10 in 112 countries, according to FlixPatrol. It’s also been in the Prime Video top 10 every day in at least one country, and in its home country of Germany, where it’s been in the top 10 for more than 500 days.
“The tremendous dedication and passion from so many creative and motivated people at Prime Video and UFA Fiction, and of course our talented cast and team, is truly overwhelming,” Bruneman said. “We are fully aware of the responsibility that comes with it. Season 2 is highly anticipated around the world and we didn’t want to disappoint our fans. That’s why we’re staying true to the core, while honing in on the series’ hallmarks of great emotion, passion, heart and a consistent cinematic look. This is Maxton Hall – “It’s for everyone who loves ‘The World of Two.'” And now we’re very happy that our second season has been so well received all over the world. ”
The success of Season 2 of Maxton Hall follows a particularly fruitful period for Fremantle, with a string of hits including Hotel Costeria starring Jesse Williams on Prime Video and Netflix series such as Stefano Sollima’s Monsters of Florence and the Chad Michael Murray drama Sullivan’s Crossing, all of which reached number one on their respective streamers.
Andrea Scrosati, Fremantle’s Group Chief Operating Officer and CEO for Continental Europe, said: “We are extremely proud of our recent achievements across our drama series.” “The global success of Amazon Prime’s UFA Fiction’s ‘Maxton Hall’ and Lux Vide’s ‘Hotel Costeria’ has been followed by ‘The Apartment’ and ‘AlterEgo’s’ Monster of Florence,’ Netflix’s ‘Sullivan’s Crossing is a testament to Fremantle’s business. All of our teams and creatives imagine, create and deliver a diverse range of content designed to connect with audiences around the world. Audience response and ratings are ultimately the most important matrix that reaffirms our strategy and direction towards our success. ”
