Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for the Season 1 finale of Maximus Pleasure Academical, “Queens,” now streaming on Apple TV.
Just when Paula Sanders thinks she’s finally put her life back together, things descend into chaos once again.
Throughout the first season of Apple TV’s Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed, Paula (Tatiana Maslany) overcomes some major challenges. After seeing Trevor (Brandon Flynn), a paid webcam sex worker, almost killed on screen, Paula sets out to solve the crime and free herself from the web of blackmailers who are making her life a living hell. In this situation, she tries to keep custody of her daughter, Hazel (Nora Wallace), even though her ex-Karl and his new wife, Mallory (Jake Johnson and Jesse Hodges), want to move the family to Boise.
When landing season arrives, everything seems settled. Paula wins a custody hearing despite recent erratic behavior, and the danger she endured fades into the background. All the loose ends seem to be tied up, as the same shadowy figures in the criminal world who were in charge of the entire web of wrongdoing that Paula found themselves in push Paula’s main antagonist, Frank (Murray Bartlett), off a rooftop with a fake suicide note admitting to murdering Trevor. Detective Sofia Gonzalez (Dolly De Leon) believes there is more to this story, but Paula doesn’t care as she is unsuspecting and ready to move on. “I don’t know anything meaningful!” Paula told Detective Gonzalez, declining to discuss her involvement in the police investigation. She goes on to say she’s going to celebrate her win and even go on a date (she surrounds herself with fellow parent Steve, played by Raymond Lee). “I’m going to drop everything else, and maybe you should too.”
