Matthew McConaughey married Camila Alves after persuading her son to tie the knot with a very honest question.
On Monday’s episode of the “Modern Wisdom” podcast, the actor shared that he is only four years old when his son Levi asked why his mom didn’t have the same surname as his father.
“I’m going through my head, ‘You’re F-King 4, Dude,'” recalls McConaughey. “I was sitting there. ‘That’s a great question, but we’re not married. When you get married, you switch your name.”
The actor said Levy (now 17) “sitted there and listened,” then took the plunge and asked her father if he was “scary.”
“I’m like, ‘You’re a f-king 4 year old, man.’ And I said, ‘Yeah, I think so,'” he said.
McConaughey’s curious conversation with the thriving child led the Academy Award winner to seek advice from the pastor.
“My pastor said, ‘Please tell me this, Mr. Risk Taker. What’s the bigger risk?
McConaughey recalled asking for advice from other “elder men who were married for decades who had long-term relationships, but whom the pastor said marriage would be a greater risk.
“How to Lose a Man in 10 Days” The 55-year-old actor and 42-year-old Alves met in a Los Angeles nightclub in 2006. They quickly fell on each other and confirmed their relationship a year later.
In 2008, the duo first became parents when the model gave birth to Levi on July 7, 2008. In 2010, we welcomed our second child, daughter Vida.
A year later, McConaughey proposed to Alves, and they finally said “I” in 2012. In late December of that year, they welcomed their third child, son Livingston.
The couple then continues to promote strong marriages, and McConaughey frequently praises her wife for her support.
McConaughey revealed the secrets of her success in marriage in her new book, “Poems & Prayers,” released on September 16th.
“The best thing you can do/for a marriage,” he titled one entry, “Make sure you/go ahead/get off your king-sized mattress/ and sleep in a queen-sized bed.”
He reflected on their decision to shrink to a small bed earlier this month in an interview with Fox News Digital.
“I wake up one morning… I look over there and Camila looks like a man’s soccer field,” he said. “Then you go to sleep at night.
This is when he realised that their huge mattresses were “not good for marriage.”
“Get off the bitch’s son,” he cried. “So we got a queen size shoulder to shoulder. I’m telling you, that’s good for your marriage.”
