Sophie Turner has already been confirmed to play Lara Croft, and other cast members for Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming Tomb Raider live-action series are gradually getting ready for production to begin in January.
Variety has learned that rising British star Martin Bobb-Semple, who recently had a recurring role on The CW’s All American: Homecoming, will be joining the series based on the iconic video game series. Details are being kept under wraps, but it is understood that he will be a series regular and a key role for the Londoner.
As previously reported, Phoebe Waller-Bridge will serve as the creator, writer and executive producer of the series, which has been in development at Prime Video since early 2023 and was officially greenlit in May 2024. Chad Hodge is also joining Waller-Bridge as executive producer and co-showrunner on the show. Jonathan Van Tulleken will serve as director and executive producer. Filming is scheduled to begin on January 19th.
Bob Semple most recently starred in All American: Homecoming as series regular Orlando “Rand” Johnson. Starting out as a recurring character, he was promoted to lead role in the series in season three. Before that, he starred in two seasons of Peacock’s “One of Us is Liing” and had a series lead role in Netflix’s “Free Reign.” His first roles at an early age were in London’s West End, after which he trained at the famous Identity drama school. Soon after, he booked his first television appearance on the BBC.
The Tomb Raider series is executive produced by Crystal Dynamics. Waller-Bridge and Jenny Robbins (via Wells Street Productions). Story Kitchen’s Dmitri M. Johnson, Mike Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson; Michael Seal; Hodge; Van Tureken. And legendary television. The series is produced by Story Kitchen, Crystal Dynamics, and Amazon MGM Studios. Waller-Bridge currently has an overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios.
The show was developed under an agreement between Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM Studios. This is a first-look deal between Story Kitchen and the studio to develop additional Tomb Raider stories into series and films.
