Malcolm has officially returned to midfield.
Hulu’s revival of the early 2000s hit comedy “Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair” released its first trailer on Monday, along with an April 10 premiere date. This new four-part event follows grown-up child prodigy Malcolm (Frankie Muniz) and his daughter (Keeley Kirsten) as they reunite with their families after hiding from them for over a decade.
“My life is great right now,” Muniz says in the trailer. “All I had to do was get away from my family!” However, Malcolm is drawn back into family ties when his parents, Hal (Bryan Cranston) and Lois (Jane Kaczmarek), ask him to attend their 40th wedding anniversary party. Naturally, confusion ensues.
The original “Malcolm in the Middle” aired on FOX for seven seasons from 2000 to 2006. Nearly all of the show’s main cast will return for the revival, including Muniz, Kaczmarek, Cranston, Chris Kennedy Masterson, Justin Barfield and Emmy Coligado. As previously announced, Caleb Ellsworth-Clark will take over the role of Dewey. Other new cast members include Karsten, Vaughn Murray, and Kiana Madeira.
Linwood Boomer created the original series and returns as writer and executive producer. Cranston, KatCo’s Tracy Katsky and Gail Berman and New Regency’s Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan and Natalie Lehman will serve as executive producers. Ken Kwapis directed all four episodes and served as executive producer. Jimmy Simmons and Laura Delahaye will serve as co-executive producers. The series is an offshoot of Disney Branded Television and produced by 20th Television.
