“Rivals” star Hudson Williams got his birthday celebrations off to an early start Thursday night at Gold House’s inaugural Lunar New Year Party in New York City.
Williams, who co-hosted the extravagant event in a Chinese tux, hit the dance floor with The Summer I Turned Pretty star Laura Tung, who twirled and jumped around each other to belt out ABBA’s “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight).” The moment Williams and Tan stepped into the center, a crowd gathered, instantly transforming the once serene space into a full-fledged dance club.
Williams kept the energy on the dance floor high, transitioning into a catchy mix of upbeat tracks like Robyn’s “Dancing on My Own” and tATu’s “All the Things She Said.” Throughout the evening, guests flocked to Williams, who brought his mother along as his plus-one, moving around the venue waiting to take selfies and chat with the actors.
At midnight, Williams celebrated her 25th birthday by blowing out the candle on top of a platter of cream puffs.
Off the dance floor, guests played mahjong, sang karaoke and enjoyed spring rolls, roast duck and other delicacies while drinking Hennessy cocktails inspired by the Year of the Fire Horse.
Tan and Williams’ dancing wasn’t the only crossover of the night between “Hot Rivals” and “The Summer I Turned Pretty.” Tung then headed downstairs to the karaoke space to sing Avril Lavigne’s “Complicated” with Ksenia Daniela Kharlamova, who plays Svetlana on the hit hockey romance series, and “Mean Girls” actor Avantika.
Tung also reunited with her “Beautiful Summer” co-stars Sean Kaufman and Minnie Mills at the Lunar New Year party. A film adaptation was announced last September, but Kaufman remained silent on details about the upcoming project, including when it would be filmed.
“No comment. Actually, I don’t even know,” Kaufman told Variety with a laugh. “So you could lie and ask me for a date right now, but it would still be a lie.”
Other notable attendees included co-hosts Bowen Yang, Yerin Ha, Prabal Gurung, Eva Chen, Daniel Martin, Liam Oh, Melissa King, Bak Mai, Kim Shui, Anna Cathcart, Ma They include Itrei Ramakrishnan, Padma Lakshmi, Isa Briones, Alexander Wang, Phillip Lim, Sunee Lee, Supriya Ganesh, Jade Bender, Zhuxin Tseng, and Gold House founder. When asked what she’s most looking forward to about the direction Asian representation in Hollywood is headed, Ha, who stars in Season 4 of Bridgerton, said, “We’ve reached a point where we don’t have to say it’s ‘representation’ and it just is the way it is.” We’re excited to be in the world and not have to explain ourselves. It’s just nice to be a part of a movie because they want us to be, instead of feeling like we’re representing something.”
