Lucy Liu will be leading the upcoming peacock crime drama “Super Fake,” which Variety has learned.
The show was originally announced in January with a series order. Logline says, “The luxury counterfeit dealer (LIU) in Chinatown in small hours enters the underworld of the dangerous black market to fund a suburban respected life for her family.”
In addition to starring, Liu will also be executive produced.
Li is best known for her films. This includes features such as “Kill Bill,” two “Charlie’s Angels” films, “Chicago,” “Setup,” “Presence,” and “Red One.” Her television roles include FOX’s “Ally McBeal,” CBS’s “Primary School” (aired for seven seasons), and “Why Women Kill” (Née CBS All Access,” which she produces and makes stars, including “Why Women Kill,” “American-born Chinese,” and “The New Amsterdam.”
She is represented by the framework, CAA, and Schreck Rose.
The series comes from creator Alice Ju, who is author, executive producer and showrunner. Additionally, Josh Safdie and Benny Safdie will serve as executive producers along with Howard Klein and Olivia Gerke of 3 Arts. Ronald Bronstein and Eli Bush are also executive produced alongside li. A24 and UCP are generated.
JU previously acquired Emmy as part of the producer team behind the hit Netflix series “Beef.” JU also served as a writer and consulting producer for the popular peacock series “PokerFace,” starring Natasha Lyon, who works on the Natflix series “Russian Doll.”
