A+E Global Networks plans to launch several new digital series while continuing to produce programming for the stations it is best known for, including Lifetime, History and A&E. Disney and the Hearst-owned company also struck a new deal with Lifetime and Queen Latifah and Taraji P. Henson to star in some of the cable network’s most popular films.
Lifetime has announced new original film deals with Queen Latifah and Flavor Unit and Taraji P. Henson with TPH Studios and Fox Entertainment Studios. The network is entering the vertical storytelling space with microdrama “Tides of Temptation,” a digital version of Lifetime’s upcoming original film “Terry McMillan Presents: Paradise with You.”
Other Lifetime films will star Sherri Shepherd, Valerie Bertinelli, and Taye Diggs.
A&E’s new productions include a documentary built around the infamous Laci Peterson case; John Gotti Jr. and John Gotti III. And Johnny Cash. Jim Belushi is at the center of a new series that examines a police officer working with a K9 partner.
The History Channel is launching two new digital-first series. “The Mistakes That Made America” examines the stunning mistakes that reshaped culture and innovation. In “Cracking Up,” a classic marble bust is imagined as the host of a podcast that provides commentary on modern life through the lens of ancient history.
The new series will be hosted by Kevin Bacon and Ted Danson. Tom Selleck and Dolph Lundgren. A new two-hour documentary, 102 Minutes Inside the Towers, produced by Robin Roberts, commemorates the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, and features testimonies from those inside the World Trade Center.
